The Postman Always Rings Twice (MGM, 1946).Australian One Sheet (27" X 40"). Here's another great format for this title, the Australian one sheet. The wonderful stone litho graphics of this one sheet closely resemble that of its American counterpart, which many consider to be the most important graphics of the entire film noir genre. Fine.

The Postman Always Rings Twice (MGM, 1946). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Lana Turner heats up the screen in her most acclaimed role as Cora, the bored wife who turns to a drifter (John Garfield) to escape her drab, dull existence. Though the film rights were first purchased in 1934, it was more than a decade before a studio was able to sufficiently tone down James M. Cain's steamy best-seller and get it past the censors.

One of the "toning down" ideas employed by director Tay Garnett was dressing Turner in virginal white, in an effort to turn down the heat. The on-screen effect was totally the opposite. This one sheet had pinholes in the field, two small tears on the lower right and one on the upper right above the fold, fold wear with chipping and small tears, and crossfold separation, but expert restoration has addressed these items and the result is a poster that displays very well. Fine+ on Linen.

Hi! Lori...

DeeDee, I am on a sort of vacation but checked petition number last night, hit 400. I still think we need 1000 at the very least to make WB bean counters to sit up and take notices. Thoughts, or anything new?

Love,

Lori

Hi! Lori...

I agree with you 100%...I sometimes think that Hollywood should leave the classic film (s) alone... Just in case, anyone want to know if I watched the re-make Of  "The Postman Always Ring Twice..." Oh! no, I have not watched the re-make just the trailer, [Or rather a film clip] but I may seek the re-make out to watch too!

Lori, Thanks, for responding to my question... deedee ;-D

[I must admit that [some...not all] re-makes I do enjoy watching...that is if I watch them before the original film.]

Hi DeeDee, I have only seen parts of the film with Nicholson and Lang. What I saw I didn't care for, I just think some things work much better if left to imagination of the viewer, if you know what I mean. Plus Garfield and Turner had such a great chemistry with each other, and from what I saw of the remark the chemistry was missing, period. That of course is just IMHO.

Hi! Lori...

Oh! yes, I enjoy collecting film noir memorabilia  too!

These MGM exhibitor aids are just wonderful. I love seeing these type 40's and 50's type of movie aids because they give us a little piece of history.

Like you mentioned because Of the history and the beautiful art-work too!

Oh! yes, I wonder if a second pairing between Garfield and Turner would have been as memorable as their pairing in "The Postman Always Ring Twice."

The "lipstick" scene is one of the sexiest scenes ever, with very little dialogue, you just knew what these two character were thinking when they looked at each other

Due to [that] pre-code being firmly in place I think writers/directors had to be more creative and leave situations up to the viewers imagination.

deedee :-D
